Artemis II crew set to break Apollo 13 distance record during lunar flyby

NASA’s Artemis II astronauts are expected to set a new record for the farthest humans have traveled from Earth as their Orion spacecraft reaches about 252,757 miles away during a flyby around the Moon’s far side later today, surpassing Apollo 13’s 1970 record of 248,655 miles. The milestone comes as Orion completes a roughly six-hour pass behind the Moon, highlighting Artemis II’s progress in testing crewed deep-space operations ahead of future lunar missions.
